Elegant Greek Wedding at Historic Anderson House in D.C.

Elegant wedding reception featuring candlelit courtyard dining with string lights, floral arches, and striped awnings

Maeve and Matt’s wedding at Anderson House in Washington, D.C., was nothing short of spectacular—a masterclass in combining timeless elegance with a bold, contemporary edge. When it comes to hosting a wedding that seamlessly blends historical grandeur with contemporary elegance, few venues can rival the magnificent Anderson House in Washington, D.C. This stunning celebration of Maeve and Matt’s love story showcases how this historic mansion serves as the perfect canvas for a modern Greek wedding that honors both tradition and trend.

The Majestic Anderson House: A Dream Wedding Venue

Nestled in the heart of Embassy Row, Anderson House stands as a testament to Gilded Age architecture and sophistication. This Beaux-Arts mansion, with its ornate details and garden, provided the perfect backdrop for this sophisticated celebration.

Maeve and Matt brought all the vibrance and joy of a traditional Greek wedding, but with a chic, fashion-forward twist. Their celebration was infused with the cultural traditions they hold dear—warm hospitality, heartfelt moments with family, and an atmosphere that was alive with music, laughter, and connection. As a wedding invitation designer, I was immediately inspired by the venue’s rich architectural details and the couple’s vision for their day.

Setting the Tone: A Wedding Suite That Tells Their Story

This couple was a dream to design for—effortlessly sophisticated, deeply thoughtful, and unafraid to break convention. They envisioned a wedding that embraced their refined aesthetic while celebrating their roots with personality and flair. The result? A wedding celebration that felt intimate, immersive, and unforgettable.

With this invitation suite, I sought to capture the essence of both the venue and the couple’s Greek heritage. Drawing inspiration from Anderson House’s architectural elements, I incorporated subtle artwork and accents that echoed the mansion’s gilded details. The result was a bespoke stationery collection that set the perfect tone for this elegant affair.

Their summer-inspired palette of taupe, white, gold, and touches of pear green and orange gave the day a warm, romantic glow. Lauren at Swoon Soiree Creative Events and Design leaned into a “harvest renaissance” vibe, using seasonal fruits like clementines, grapes, pears, and native Virginia persimmons alongside lush florals—amaranthus, dahlias, and roses—to create moody, artful arrangements that echoed the mansion’s historical opulence.

The invitations were a true extension of this vision. Designed with handmade paper and letterpress printing for a touch of old-world luxury, each piece featured vintage artwork that mirrored the very elements used to decorate the space—lush greenery, ripe figs, grapes, and golden pears. From the moment guests opened their invitations, they were welcomed into a wedding experience that felt intentional, elevated, and full of meaning.

On the big day, chandeliers hung from greenery-draped arches, casting a soft light over tables adorned with candlelight. A champagne tower added flair, while a cigar bar brought a bespoke, old-world touch. Every detail—from the bride’s stunning custom gown to the groom’s showstopping dark green tuxedo—was tailored to reflect their story.
