Unique Ways to Use Vellum for That Perfect Finishing Touch

Recently, vellum has been trending in the wedding stationery world! This semi-transparent fiber can add a little something special to invitation suites of all styles. But, what exactly is it? And how can it be incorporated into your suite for that perfect finishing touch? As a wedding stationery designer, I’m here to answer all of your questions!

What is Vellum?

Traditionally, vellum was a fine parchment paper made from calf- or lambskin. Today, it’s made from cotton fibers (don’t worry, no animals were harmed in the making of your invitation suite!).

Vellum is a versatile material with a variety of uses. Due to its semi-sheer nature, it makes an enticing invitation enclosure or overlay, since the details are just visible under the delicate paper! It can be printed with a design or left plain, depending on your desired look. Then, it can be sealed with a ribbon, twine, or wax! It’s the perfect way to add a special touch that makes your suite uniquely yours.

Wondering where in your suite to incorporate this in-demand material? With these four options, you can create something truly one-of-a-kind!

Save the Date

For a delicate design that will delight your guests, you can print your invitation or save the date directly on vellum. Then, pair it with a card printed with custom artwork. You can give your guests a sneak peek into the wedding theme, or simply include a photo of the two of you!

Enclosure

Alternatively, encase your suite in printed or plain vellum (we love this wildflower design!). When your guests peek inside their envelopes, your invitation will have the subtle translucency of frosted glass—they’ll be enticed to open it and see what’s inside! As a finishing touch, seal with ribbon, twine, or a wax seal.

Overlay

Since vellum is semi-sheer, it’s also great to use as a layering tool! It adds interest to your suite without obscuring the important details beneath.

Escort cards, menus, programs, and favors are just a few additional uses for this stationery superhero!
